To the south of Beirut, Lebanon is a refugee camp that has been home to refugees from Palestine, Syria and Iraq for nearly 70 years. A city, lived like this for many for life. Mariam AlShaar is one of them. Now, Mariam has brought together women from this field to do what has never been done before: start a catering company. Soufra follows the improbable and brilliantly stimulating story of an intrepid, generational refugee who has spent her entire life in the refugee camp of Burj El Barajneh, just south of Beirut, Lebanon. The film follows Mariam as she stands against expectations to change her fate by launching a successful catering company, "Soufra", and then expanding her to a food-truck company with a diverse team of women, all refugees, who now they share this field as their home. Sense of hope and resourcefulness make this film moving and engaging.
