BIOGRAFIA:

Güner Yasemin Balci is journalist, author and filmmaker. As a journalist she focuses on the situation of immigrants in the german society. She worked up until 2008 for the TV news magazine Frontal 21 at the ZDF and is now working regularly for Arte and ZDF. In 2008 her debut novel „Arabboy – A Youth in Germany or the short life of Rashid A.“ was published and adapted into a successful play. Her second novel “ArabQueen or the taste of freedom“ was also adapted as a play in 2010. In 2012 Balci won the CIVIS TV award for her report “Death of a Judge – On the trails of Kirsten Heise“. Her next book was published in 2014. In “Aliyahs Escape“ Balci descibes the real life story of the refuge of a young female Kurd, who decides to live a self-determined life and is now living under a different name. Balci herself helped the yound woman with her struggles. In 2015 her documentary “Der Jungfrauenwahn“ (“VirginMania“) was released. The film won the Bavarian TV award, the CIVIS TV award and was nominated for the Prix Europa. “The great Journey – Seyran Ates and the way towards a reformed islam“ is her second documentary.
